Hornet Track and Field at Liberty

                LYNCHBURG, VA – The Hornet outdoor track and field team made the short trip across town Saturday to compete at Liberty University.

                Sophomore Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) won the 200-meter dash in 21.88, while Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) cleared 14’11” in the pole vault to place second. Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) finished the 400-meter hurdles in 55.27 with Ian McNaughton (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) close behind in 57.44. Travis Wray (Newburg, MD/La Plata) ran the 1,500 in 4:02.34, Rashard Adams (Ashburn, VA) ran a 51.46 in the open 400 meters and John Pavia (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) threw the hammer 129’4”.

                On the women’s side, Ashley Allen (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) placed third in the shot put (10.76 m) and the discus (33.41 m) and Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/APW) broke the school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase by completing the event in 11:51.48. Three Hornets ran well in the 800, as Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale) finished in 2:26.33, and Molly Galloway (Fairfax, VA/W.T. woodson) and Megan Donnelly (McLean, VA/McLean) recorded times of 2:27.44 and 2:27.62, respectively.    

                The Hornets will compete next weekend at Duke University and North Carolina AT&T.
