LC Baseball Wins Battle of Hornets 11-9 Over Shenandoah

Box Score at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team rallied from an 8-3 deficit late in the game to capture a 11-9 come-from-behind victory over Shenandoah University in non-conference play from Bridgeforth Field Friday afternoon.

LC (18-7) and the host Hornets were scoreless through the first three innings, but both teams bats came alive after that. Lynchburg scored three runs in the top of the fourth, which were immediately answered by three SU runs in the bottom half of the inning. Shenandoah scored five runs over the next two innings to take a 8-3 lead going into the top of the seventh. LC battled back with six runs in the top of the seventh to take a one-run lead, but Shenandoah knotted the score at nine in the bottom half of the seventh.

Lynchburg eventually scored winning runs in the top of the ninth, as LC got an RBI groundout by Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and an insurance run off a SU error. Jared Millner (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) got his second win in as many games, tossing the final one and a third innings of the ballgame, surrendering only a hit.

Junior second baseman Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) was 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored, with Crews also contributing two hits and two RBI. Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) and Daniel Haugh (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) each had two hits and two runs scored, and outfielder Matt Winston (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) chipped in with a 2-4 game, scoring once.

Preston Tarleton and Christian Frey paced Shenandoah (14-11), as each finished with two hits and two RBI for the Hornets.

LC is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Eastern Mennonite University for a league doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in Harrisonburg, VA.
