
The Rev. William Lee will give the 2008 Jennie Cutler Shumate Lecture on Christian Ministry, "The Black Church's Critique of the Ecological Crisis," at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 31 in Snidow Chapel at Lynchburg College. The lecture is free and open to the public.
The focus of this year's Shumate Lecture is in keeping with "A Greener Tomorrow Today: LC's Year of the Environment."
Lee has been pastor at Loudon Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Roanoke for 30 years and is immediate past moderator of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada.
A 1974 graduate of Virginia State University and a 1978 graduate of the Divinity School at Duke University, Lee is currently a doctoral candidate at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio, with a concentration in black church studies.
Lee has taught in the Roanoke City Schools and is an adjunct faculty member in the religion department at Roanoke College. He is a certified resolution specialist with the Department of Veteran Affairs and serves as chief mediator at the VA Medical Center in Salem.
Lee will also deliver the John M. Turner Jr. Lectureship on Life and Faith at First Christian Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30. Members of the community are encouraged to attend.
