ODAC Tabs Three Hornets as POTW

SALEM, VA – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) honored three Lynchburg College student athletes Monday afternoon with the release of its top Players of the Week for the week of March 24.

Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) earned the baseball player of the week award, the third-straight week a Hornet took home the top baseball award. The senior first basemen enjoyed a lot of success, as he was 6-11 (.545) with four doubles and a homerun. In the first game against Randolph-Macon College Saturday, Crews was 3-4 with five RBI and two runs scored, blasting his fourth homer of the season. Crews reached base in 10 of his 15 plate appearances, also extending his hitting streak to a team-best eight games.

Senior attack Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson) took home the men’s lacrosse weekly award, posting six goals and four assists in a 2-0 week for the then 12th-ranked Hornet men’s lacrosse team (10th this week). In a 17-4 victory over Greensboro College on Wednesday, he delivered two goals and two assists. In a 14-8 win over #15 ranked Villa Julie College Saturday, he posted four goals and one assist in the second half, along with one assist in the first half.

Sophomore Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) was named the Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the first honoree of the outdoor season. He qualified for national competition in three different events Saturday as the Hornets hosted the LC Invitational. Word provisionally qualified for national competition in the 400, winning the 30-person event in 47.66 to rank second all-time in the 400 at LC. Both Hornet relay teams also provisionally qualified for nationals, as Word joined J.J. Johnson, Earl Graves and Brandon Edwards to win the 4x100 relay in 41.88. Will Tolbert teamed with Word, Edwards and Graves to qualify in the mile relay in 3:16.53.
