Hornet Softball Wins Two at Greensboro Tourney

BURLINGTON, NC – The second-ranked Lynchburg College softball team won both of its games Saturday at the Greensboro College Invitational.

The Hornets rallied from a 4-1 seventh-inning deficit against Emory University (GA) in the opener to win 5-4. Kirstin Swank (Bear, De/Caravel Academy) tripled with two outs to drive in the tying run, and freshman Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) delivered a walk-off RBI single for the second time in as many days to give LC the win. Bruce struck out seven Eagles and scattered 10 hits on the mound to post the victory, her ninth of the season.

Lynchburg won another nail-biter in the nightcap, outlasting Greensboro 6-4 in eight innings. Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) was 2-5 with a run scored, and both Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) and Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun Co.) each had a hit and a walk. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) worked all eight innings for the win, allowing seven hits.

The Hornets (19-3) hosts Emory & Henry College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) twin bill Saturday at 2 p.m.
