CNU Softball Hands LC its first Defeats of Season

            NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Christopher Newport University softball team defeated third-ranked Lynchburg College in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday, 5-4 and 5-3. The Hornets had started the season with 16 straight victories.

            The Captains pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the win in the opener. Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/E.C. Glass) was 2-4 for the Hornets, while Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun Co.) smacked a home run and drove in two runs. Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) was 1-3 with a walk.

            Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) went 2-2 in the nightcap, with a home run and two walks. Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) went 2-4 and Sandifer was 1-3 with a run scored.

            The Hornets (16-2) will compete in the Greensboro College Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
