LYNCHBURG, VA – The Hornet baseball team sent 12 batters to the plate in the eighth inning, as LC scored seven runs to come from behind and defeat Ferrum 8-3 in non-conference action from Lynchburg City Stadium Tuesday evening.

The Hornets (15-7) scored first in the bottom of the second as Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) singled in Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) from second for the game’s first run. Ferrum (5-8) answered in the top of the fourth, tying the game on a Jesse Fuller RBI double.

FC took their first lead of the game with two runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a RBI double by Gabe Moncada. Lynchburg responded with a seven-run, eight hit output in the bottom of the eighth, with the big hit coming on a two-run triple by senior Matt Winston (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring).

Lynchburg was led by Taylor, who finished 3-4 with two stolen bases, a run and a RBI. Crews was 2-3 with two doubles and two walks, while Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) was 2-5 with a run and a run driven in. Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) also finished the game with two hits and a run driven in. Starter Spencer Garrett (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) tossed six innings, allowing only one runs on five hits. Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) closed the game with a perfect two and a third innings, getting the win.

Ferrum starter Brian Mays was stellar, and got the tough no-decision after going seven innings, surrendering only five hits and one run while fanning eight Hornet hitters. Kevin Marshall has a multi-hit game for the Panthers, who dropped their third straight game.
