LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball squad took the first end of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader with Washington & Lee Sunday 14-6, but lost to the Generals 10-5 in game two of the afternoon in action from Fox Field.

The Hornets fell behind in the first game 4-0 after one and a half innings, but powered back scoring in every inning but the first. The middle innings were decisive, as LC outscored W&L 10-0 over the fourth, fifth and sixth stanzas.

Lynchburg was paced by Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River), who stayed hot going 4-4 with two RBI, four runs and three stolen bases in the first game. Senior Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage), Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and David Gaines (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) all contributed three hits for the Hornets in game one.

In the nightcap, Washington & Lee (14-4/6-2 ODAC) was the one that controlled the middle of the game as they outscored LC 8-2 over the same three innings. Charles Davidson was strong on the hill for the Generals, as he scattered six hits allowing four runs. Gaines collected three hits in the second game, while LaBrie was 1-2 with a RBI and three runs scored.

W&L’s Terrence McKelvey had three hits in the first game, with teammates Hunter Serenbetz and James Madden matching him in the second game. Tony Cardona and Will Lewis had multiple hit performances in both games for the visitors.

The Hornets (14-7/5-1 ODAC) return to the diamond on Tuesday when they entertain Ferrum College at 6 p.m. at Lynchburg City Stadium.
