ADA, OH – Two Lynchburg College competitors traveled to Ohio Northern University Friday to compete in the 2008 Division III Indoor Track & Field Nationals.

Sophomore Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) ran a 49.64 in the 400-meter dash to finish ninth, just one spot short of the finals – and one spot shy of All-American honors. David Kolbe of Wisconsin La Crosse was the national champion in 49.18.

Senior Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) competed in the pole vault, but failed to reach the top eight and All-American status. Monmouth University’s Jonny Henkins won the title, clearing 16’9 1/2”.

The Hornet outdoor season begins Saturday at Coastal Carolina University.
