Hornet Softball Takes Two at Randolph

LYNCHBURG, VA – The third-ranked Lynchburg College softball team breezed to a 16-0, 13-1 doubleheader sweep of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph College Thursday afternoon, both in five innings.

Freshman Caitlin Dolby (Laurel, DE/Laurel) threw a complete-game three-hit shutout in the opener, striking out three. Audra Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View) was 3-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBI, while Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) was 2-3 with two RBI. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) homered and drove in four runs and Leslie Bailey (Rockville, VA/Home school) was 1-3 with two runs. Lindsay Wood and Gina Pagano each had hits for Randolph (2-2/0-2 ODAC).

Melissa O’Hara (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) and Lauren Ewing (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) combined to no-hit the Wildcats in the nightcap. O’Hara walked just one in her four innings and allowed an unearned run, and Ewing sent the side down in order to close out the game. Perkins was 1-2 with double, two runs and two RBI, Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) went 2-3 with three RBI and Savannah Tinsley (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) was also 2-3.

The Hornets (16-0) have the weekend off before traveling to Christopher Newport University Tuesday for a twin-bill at 3 p.m.
