Items that are Recyclable:

Mixed Paper

The following paper products can be recycled as MIXED PAPER: white paper, colored paper, post-its, magazines, soft-cover books (or hard-cover with cover removed), phone books, newspapers, blueprints, file folders, cereal boxes and other boxes of similar weight). Paper that is waxed cannot be recycled, such as the paper cups that the cafeteria uses. If you generate corrugated cardboard, please undo the box and place it next to the paper collection bin.

Plastic

Plastics coded #1-#7 are acceptable. The number is normally found on the bottom of the container inside of a recycling triangle.
For plastic bottles, please remove the caps and rinse the containers before placing them in the collection bins.

Aluminum

Only aluminum beverage cans are acceptable. Please rinse the can out before placing it in the collection bin.

Collection:

Bins for the above items are located throughout the academic buildings and residence halls.

For students living in Southside (houses, townhomes, courts, Peaksview), you can be supplied collection bins upon request. If you would like either a desk-side container, paper collection bin, or the large aluminum and plastic bottle collection bins, please contact recycling@lynchburg.edu. If you live in these areas and wish to recycle without a bin, please place your recyclables, mixed paper, plastic bottles, or aluminum cans, in clear plastic bags. They still must be sorted! (Cans with cans, plastic bottles with plastic bottles). Clear plastic bags are available from Res Life.

All items collected on campus are taken directly to a local recycling company in Madison Heights.
