Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources Preston Bryant will speak on "Using Market Forces to Foster Environmental Protection" at Lynchburg College at 7 p.m. March 12.
The lecture, sponsored by the College's MBA Association, is free and open to the public. It will be held in Sydnor Performance Hall, Elliot & Rosel Schewel Hall, in conjunction with Lynchburg College's Year of the Environment: A Greener Tomorrow Today.
Prior to joining Governor Kaine's cabinet, Bryant represented Lynchburg in the Virginia House of Delegates for 10 years, where he sponsored landmark legislation to help preserve more than one million acres of nontidal wetlands, streamline the state's stormwater management programs, and create a nutrient credit trading program to advance upgrades to more than a hundred wastewater treatment facilities that discharge into Virginia waters.
Bryant also was a partner in a Virginia-based engineering, surveying, and planning firm that specialized in the design of large-scale residential, commercial and industrial developments as well as transportation facilities.
Bryant was born in Lynchburg and received his B.A. in English from Randolph-Macon College, a master's degree in the humanities from the University of Richmond, and an M.A. in modern British literature from the University of London. He and his wife, Liz, live in Richmond.
The Lynchburg College MBA Association is a new campus organization committed to enhancing the experience of both MBA students and alumni by providing opportunities for networking, information sharing, and community service.
