Lynchburg College's Beard Center on Aging will present community conversations on questions such as:
- If an elderly man's wife has dementia, but he insists on having sex, is it coerced?
- Are our localities providing adequately for an aging population?
- How do people maintain a healthy brain as they get older?
Such questions will become increasingly important as Region 2000 sees it population growing older. By 2030, one in five, or more than 55,000 people, will be 65 or older - nearly as many as those 19 or younger.
"Now is the time to take inventory of what we are doing in our community," said Denise Scruggs, director of the Lynchburg College Beard Center on Aging. "It is time for us to make sure services are in place so no one falls though the cracks."
The Beard Center on Aging, in partnership with the United Way of Central Virginia, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging, and local Parks and Recreation Departments, are sponsoring a series of "Community Conversations on Aging" throughout Region 2000 in March and April.
