LC Baseball Falls at Greensboro 3-1

Box Score at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – The Lynchburg College baseball team managed just five hits Thursday afternoon in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Greensboro College at War Memorial Stadium in non-conference play.

Greensboro took an early lead, as it pushed across two in the third inning on a two-run double by first baseman Dan Poindexter. The Pride extended their lead out to three runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Alex Guerra scored on a fielding miscue by LC.

The Hornets (9-6) were stymied all day, as they entered the ninth inning with just two hits on the afternoon. Lynchburg tacked on a run in the final stanza thanks to a Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) RBI single, and had the tying run at the plate, but a fielder’s choice ended the ball game.

Junior designated hitter Ricky Capelli (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) was 1-3 with a double, while catcher Ryan Litz (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) was 1-3 with a double and run scored. Sophomores Connor Thompson (Solomons, MD/Reservoir) and Spencer Garret (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) both tossed two innings of scoreless ball for the Hornets.

GC (13-7) sent seven pitchers to the mound, as Alex Phetteplace got the win for the Pride, working one scoreless inning in relief. The loss snaps LC’s five-game winning streak, and senior Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) failed to reach base safely for the first time this season.

LC continues its busy week tomorrow as the No. 20 Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College come to Fox Field for a non-conference doubleheader at noon.
