Four Hornets Earn Weekly Conference Honors

            SALEM, VALynchburg College was well represented on the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) player of the week list announced Monday, as four Hornet athletes gained honors for their performances over the last seven days.

            Senior goalkeeper Garret Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) was awarded the conference’s men’s lacrosse honor. He posted 17 saves and allowed just five goals to Ohio Wesleyan University Sunday. He recorded 10 saves in the decisive second-half in which Lynchburg held outscored the Battling Bishops 6-0.

            Senior attack Nicole Locher (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) took home women’s lax athlete of the week after she scored seven goals and tallied five assists in two wins for the Hornets. On Tuesday at Shenandoah, Locher tied the school record for assists in a game with four and she scored three goals.  On Saturday against Methodist, she tallied four goals and one assist.

            Senior Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna Co.) picks up her second straight softball league player of the week honor.  She hit .643 last week as the Hornets posted six wins to remain unbeaten at 12-0. She blasted two home runs, a double and a triple and drove in nine RBI in the six games at Virginia Beach. Perkins posted a 1.357 slugging percentage  and was walked seven times for a .761 on-base percentage. 

           
Second-year pitcher Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington and Lee) worked 18 innings last week to post three victories and help LC remain undefeated. She allowed just six hits, while striking out eight to have a 0.39 ERA. On Sunday she threw a complete-game two-hit shutout against regional powerhouse Salisbury University in a 1-0 hornet win.
