Hornet Softball Remains Unbeaten with Two Victories at VWC Tourney

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team won its ninth and 10th-straight games to start off the 2008 season Saturday at the Virginia Wesleyan College Tournament. The two games were played at Princess Anne Park.

LC defeated Frostburg State University 14-3 in five innings in the opener. Senior Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) went 3-3 with two home runs, a double and five RBI, while Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) also was 3-3, with a double and two runs and two RBI. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) worked four innings on the mound – giving up just two hits – for the win.

The Hornets out-lasted Moravian 6-5 in nine innings in the second game, scoring the winning run as Audra Della Rosa (Rumsford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View) drove in Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) with a suicide squeeze, one of Della Rosa’s four sacrifice bunts in the contest. Allsop was 4-4 with two runs scored, Perkins was 1-3 with two walks and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) was 1-3 with two RBI and a walk. Bruce threw all nine innings for the win.

Lynchburg (10-0) will square off Sunday with Salisbury University (MD) in a non-conference doubleheader at Great Bridge High School in Virginia Beach.
