Hornet Women's Lax Tops Methodist University 16-4

LYNCHBURG, VA - Sophomore attack Katie Ollice (West Chester, PA/West Chester) scored four times and dished out two assists as she helped lead the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team to a 16-4 win over Methodist University in non-conference play from Shellenberger Field.

The Hornets (2-0) sprinted out of the gate, scoring five of the six first goals, eventually taking a 11-3 lead into the intermission. LC continued the pressure in the second half, as it held MU to just one goal on five shots in the second half. Lynchburg held a 37-12 shot advantage for the contest, scooping up 27 ground balls to the Monarchs' 16.

Senior captain Nicole Locher (Yorktown Hts., NY/Yorktown) scored four times and added an assist, while fellow Yorktown graduate Deana Welsch (Yorktown Hts., NY) found the net three times and assisted on two other scores. Freshman midfielder Lindsay Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon) posted a solid day with two goals and two assists, with junior attack Tricia Clay (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) notching two goals.

Methodist (1-2) was led on the scoresheet by Christina Layson, who scored twice. Brittny Waldron and Krystal Poirier both scored one, while sophomore keeper Lindsay Cosgray did a fine job in net, stopping 12 LC shots.

LC is back in action on Shellenberger Field this Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it opens conference play with a matchup against the Eagles of Bridgewater College.
