VWC Men and Women Top LC Tennis Teams

            LYNCHBURG, VA – Both Virginia Wesleyan College tennis teams topped Lynchburg College Friday afternoon from the LC Courts in the first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match for both squads. The Marlin men won by a score of 5-4, as the VWC women prevailed 8-1.

            The Lynchburg men dropped all three of the doubles matches, but clawed back in the single’s contests. LC had a chance to win the deciding game, but a third set between Brian Nelson (Charlotte, NC/Home schooled) and Tim Sanford of VWC fell in favor of the visiting Marlins, 11-9.

            LC (0-1/0-1 ODAC) got individual wins from Kristian Richardson (Trenton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton) at No. 1 singles, 2-5, ret., Daniel Civis (Forest, VA/Holy Cross) took his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-4, while Jay Duimstra (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) defeated his No. 3 singles counterpart in straight sets, three and two. No. 6 singles player Kyler Paluga (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) won a marathon three-setter with scores of 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-6.

            On the women’s side, LC (0-1/0-1 ODAC) chalked up a double’s win from Jessica Moore (Salem, VA/Glenvar) and Amanda Dennis (Manassas, VA/CD Hylton) 8-4, but the Hornets were swept in the singles flight.

            Both the men and women’s tennis team will travel to Hilton Head, SC this upcoming week over Spring Break for non-conference action. Times and team matchups are still undetermined.
