LC Women Fall to Roanoke in ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals 86-67

SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College women’s basketball team completed their 2007-08 season Thursday afternoon, as they fell to Roanoke College 86-67 in the quarterfinal round of the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. With the loss, the Hornets finish their season 16-10, going 13-7 in the league.
Roanoke College jumped out of the gate gunning, as they connected on 17 of their first 24 shots, leading by 15 points at the halftime break. Sophomore guard Jaleesa Osborne nailed her first six shots from the field, two from behind the arc, as she led the Maroons with 15 points in the first stanza. Roanoke drilled 19 of 28 shots in the first half, blistering the nets at a 68 percent clip.
The Hornets shot well themselves in the first half, connecting on 50 percent (14-28) from the field. LC’s first-team All-ODAC performer Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) paced the Hornets with 13 points, hitting on five of her 11 field goal attempts.
The second half brought much of the same, as the Hornets could not bounce back from a double-digit deficit. Dahn led Lynchburg with 20 points, but only grabbed three rebounds, down from her 12.1 caroms a game average.
Sophomore guard Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) posted 12 points for LC, while fellow guard Dana Esposito (New Port Richey, FL/Holy Names) had 11 points and a team-high four assists. Freshman Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland) had a strong effort off the bench for Lynchburg, as she netted 10 points. LC has not won an ODAC tournament game since the 1989-90 season, when they knocked off Emory & Henry 64-49 in the quarterfinal round.
Roanoke (16-10/13-7 ODAC) got a game-high 24 points from Osborne, who finished 10 of 13 from the floor. Caitlyn Long scored 19 points, nailing five from downtown, while first-team conference performer Erin Hanson had 18 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Freshman Jordan Gholson hit all six of her shots, scoring 12 points. The Maroons shot 60 percent from the floor, making 9-17 (52.9%) from deep.
Lynchburg finishes with their best record since the 2002-03 season, when the Hornets ended 16-10 overall, posting a 14-6 conference mark.
