LC Equestrian Competes in Two Events Over the Weekend
Three Riders Qualify for Regional Competition
ROANOKE, VA and CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Lynchburg College equestrian team competed in two events over the weekend, earning a top-3 finish on Sunday with three riders qualifying for regional competition.
On Saturday, they competed at Hollins University and placed seventh while three riders earned a second place finish or higher. Caitlin Flathers (Rixeyville, VA) finished first in novice over fences, Mary Prinzinger (Goode, VA/Jefferson Forest) placed first in advanced walk/trot/canter, and Patricia Williams came in at second in walk/trot. Charlotte Harris (Middleburg, VA/Madeira) placed fourth in open fences and sixth in open flat with Melissa Fairfield (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) taking home a fourth and sixth placement in novice flat and novice over fences.
Sunday the team traveled to the University of Virginia and brought home a third-place finish. Harris was named the high point rider of the show as she finished first in open flat and second in open fences. Erin Skog (West Chester, PA/Villa Maria) came in second in intermediate fences while Flathers came in at third in intermediate flat. Williams notched fourth place in walk/trot while Sarah Ridgeway (Locust Dale, VA/Orange County) finished sixth in advanced walk/trot/canter
Three riders qualified for the regional show. Skog qualified for intermediate flat and novice fences, Flathers qualified for novice flat and Prinzinger will compete in advanced walk/trot/canter.
The equestrian team next will compete in the IHSA Regional at Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, VA, on Friday.
