SALEM, Va. --- The 2008 ODAC Basketball Tournament seeds are set with a pair of newcomers holding the top ranks.  Guilford College earns top billing on the men’s side after churning out a 16-2 conference record, 21-4 overall.  Virginia Wesleyan College has given itself its best chance at winning its first ODAC women’s basketball championship, entering as the top seed following a 17-3 league mark, 20-5 overall.

The ODAC tournaments are set to begin Thursday, February 28 and continue to “Championship Sunday” on March 2.  All games will be played in the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia.

Virginia Wesleyan (20-5, 14-4 ODAC) goes into the men’s tourney as the second seed by virtue of tie-breakers over Randolph-Macon College (20-5, 14-4), the third seed.  Roanoke College (17-8, 11-7) and Washington & Lee University (15-10, 11-7) match-up as the fourth and fifth seeds.  Hampden-Sydney College (14-11, 8-10), last year’s tournament champion, comes to Salem as the six seed while Bridgewater College (13-12, 7-11) and Eastern Mennonite University (9-16, 5-13) round out the eight team field as the seventh and eighth seeds, respectively.

Randolph-Macon (21-4, 16-4), winners of the past three women’s titles, opens the tourney as the #2 seed.  Eastern Mennonite (19-6, 15-5) repeats for a second straight season as the three seed.  Roanoke (15-10, 13-7) matches its men’s contingent as the four seed with Lynchburg College (16-9, 13-7) holding the fifth spot.  Bridgewater (12-13, 10-10) enters as the sixth seed while Washington & Lee (9-16, 8-12) and Emory & Henry College (9-16, 7-13) round out the field as the seventh and eighth seeds.
