LC Softball Sweeps Mary Washington 

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team remained unbeaten Sunday afternoon, sweeping both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Mary Washington.

The Hornets won the first game 6-1, as Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) went 3-3 with three RBI. Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Jonathan Law) was 2-3 with two runs and Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun County) was also 2-3. Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA) worked seven innings for the win, allowing just four hits while striking out five.

The nightcap was tied at zero heading into the bottom of the fourth, but LC broke open the game with two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and two more in the sixth to breeze to a 9-2 win. Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) was 3-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Perkins and Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/S. Regional) each hit two-run homers. Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) scattered seven hits in seven frames for the win. Kerri Spaulding lifted a two-run home run for the Eagles (2-2), and Ashley Sifer and Carolyn Hannoch each had two hits.

Lynchburg (6-0) travels to the Virginia Wesleyan College Tournament next weekend.
