Lynchburg Softball Defeats Shenandoah 10-5, 7-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team defeated Shenandoah 10-5 and 7-0 in a doubleheader from Aubrey Moon Field on Saturday afternoon.

In the first game, LC was down 3-1 after three innings, but LC’s bats would come alive, scoring nine total runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined to pull ahead for good. Amber James (Manahawkin, NJ/S. Regional) hit a one-run homerun in the fourth inning to incite the scoring frenzy. Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) jacked a pitch over the fences for a three-run homer in the fourth, and Kirstin Swank (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) blasted another three-run homer in the fifth inning.

Aura Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View) scored two runs while Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudon County) tallied two hits. Barbara Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) pitched all seven innings on the mound for LC, allowing seven hits and five earned runs. Catherine Buerle drove in all five runs for Shenandoah (0-2) while Jolisa Jones scored three runs.

Seven different players drove in all seven runs for Lynchburg in the second game. Campbell scored two runs and hit a homerun while Dara Sandifer (Monroe, VA/Holy Cross) and pitcher Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) each recorded two hits. Bruce also threw six innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit and walking one batter along with two strikeouts.
