Eiffel Tower

About 30 Lynchburg College students will be leaving for an 11-day spring break study abroad trip to France on February 28. The students have been invited to make a special visit to the Malmaison Chateau located in Lynchburg's sister-city, Rueil-Malmaison, just west of Paris.

Bernard Chevallier, curator of the Malmaison Chateau and Museum, will conduct a private tour for the Lynchburg College students. Chevallier traveled to Lynchburg in October 2006 and gave a lecture at LC during his visit.

This journey through French contemporary culture includes visits to Mont-St.-Michel, the D-Day beaches in Normandy, the Loire Valley, and Paris. While in Europe, the students will have the opportunity to travel on the TGV - the French high-speed train. The trip begins in Geneva with a tour of the magnificent Castle of Chillon. Students will also spend three days in Paris before returning to the U.S. on March 9.

The trip is led by Dr. Ed DeClair, associate professor of political science and assistant dean for international programs, and Barbara Rothermel, director of LC's Daura Gallery.

This is the eighth year that spring break programs have been offered to LC students. During the spring semester students enroll in a semester-long class that has an international experience woven into the fabric of that course. During the last eight years, students have been to Argentina (three times), Costa Rica (twice), Italy (once), Spain (twice), and France (twice). Next year's spring break program will take LC students to Spain and Morocco. With registration already under way, students are currently reserving their spots for this fantastic journey.
