Lynchburg Baseball Team Knocks Off Frostburg 13-1, Falls to Methodist 13-11

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Lynchburg College baseball team finished up their five-game weekend North Carolina trip Sunday as they defeated Frostburg State University 13-1 before falling to Methodist University 13-11 in the nightcap.

In the first game of the afternoon versus Frostburg State (0-4), the Hornets again run-ruled the Bobcats for the second-straight day, defeating FSU 13-1 in seven innings. The Hornets scored in four of their six at-bats, posting 10 combined runs in the fifth and sixth stanzas. Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) was 2-5, belting a two-run homer in the third inning. Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) was 3-4, scoring twice and stealing two bags, and Ricky Capelli (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) added a 2-4 outing with two runs and two RBI.

Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) also added a two-run homer for LC, and fellow Heritage graduate Jon Crews (Lynchburg, VA) was 2-4. Junior lefthander Rich Glover (Bedford, VA/Liberty) worked six innings for the win, giving up four hits and one run while fanning five Bobcat batters.

In the finale, the Hornets outhit their hosts 15-9, but fell 13-11 to Methodist. LC jumped out to a five-run lead, but three four-run innings by MU sealed LC's fate. The Hornets were led by Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell), who finished 4-4 with two RBI. LaBrie was 3-5 with three knocked in, while Taylor, Capelli and freshman Daniel Haugh (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) each added two hits apiece. Crews also hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning for LC, his second long ball of the season. Seth Kivett and Kenly Locklear had multi-hit games for Methodist (6-2).

The Hornets (3-4) will now turn their attention to their home opener this Saturday, as the Crusaders of Alvernia College (PA) come to Fox Field to open their 2008 season with a doubleheader at noon.
