Hornet Softball Sweeps Meredith to Open 2008 Season

Hornet Softball Sweeps Meredith to Open 2008 Season

             RALEIGH, NC – The Lynchburg College softball team swept Meredith College Saturday 10-0 (5 innings) and 8-2 to open the 2008 season.

             In the lid-lifter, senior Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) led the offensive onslaught, going 2-2 with a home run, a double and four RBI. Leslie Bailey (Rockville, VA/Homeschool) was 3-4 with three runs, Audra Della Rosa (Rumford, RI/St. Mary Academy Bay View) was 2-3 with three RBI and Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) was also 2-3 with three runs scored.  Barbie Miles (Kinsale, VA/Washington & Lee) threw four innings of one-hit ball on the hill to earn the win.

             Freshman Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) threw six innings in the second game, allowing just one earned run – while going 2-4 from the plate with two RBI. Allsop went 3-5 with three RBI and two stolen bases and Perkins was 2-2 with two runs.

             The Hornets (2-0) host Shenandoah University next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference twin bill.
