Hornets Outlast E&H 67-63 in Women’s Play

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Four players scored in double figures for the Lynchburg College women’s basketball team Friday evening as the Hornets outlasted Emory & Henry College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

The Wasps led by 35-33 at intermission, and opened a five-point advantage midway through the stanza. With the contest tied at 61 all with just under two minutes remaining on the game clock, a short jumper by sophomore forward Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) and another short leaner 20 seconds later from Chevonne Booker (Richmond, VA/Thomas Jefferson) gave LC a four-point edge. The Hornets struggled from the free-throw line down the stretch, but the LC defense clamped down to seal the win.

Dahn finished with team-highs of 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Booker contributed 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) posted 11 points and six rebounds, Kelly Sutherland (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) hit five of her eight shots for 11 points, and Dana Esposito (New Port Richie, FL/Holy Names) added nine points and eight caroms.

Sarah Petty led Emory & Henry (8-15/6-12 ODAC) with 15 points, six boards and seven assists, and Baylie Snyder had 15 points as well. Samantha Shepard tallied 14 points and Krista Haynes had 13 points.

Lynchburg out-rebounded its guests 50-41, and the teams combined for 36 turnovers.

The Hornets (13-8/10-6 ODAC) host Hollins University Saturday at 5 p.m. in more conference play.
