Randolph-Macon Pulls Away Late from LC Women 82-66
ASHLAND, VA - Sophomore center Molly Ariail scored a game-high 25 points, also grabbing 18 rebounds as the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College knocked off Lynchburg College 82-66 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Tuesday night.
The Hornets and Yellow Jackets (17-2/12-2 ODAC) battled back-and-forth during the first stanza, but R-MC posted a 5-0 run right before the half to go up 36-31 at the break. Ariail paced the Jackets in the first half with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Lynchburg charged back, leading by as much as four in the second half, thanks to a jumper by freshman Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) at the 15:57 mark. The game remained close until R-MC pulled away with 4:53 to play, as the Hornets failed to score again missing their last 12 shots from the field.
LC was led offensively by Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run), who finished with 15 points and 14 boards. Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) added 15 points, while Dana Esposito (New Port Richey, FL/Holy Names) and Lucas scored 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Lindsey Riesbeck also finished with a double-double for Randolph-Macon, posting 15 points and 11 rebounds. Nicole Childress and Amanda Hiltunen each chipped in 12 points for R-MC, who defeated LC for the 12th straight meeting.
The Hornets (12-7/9-5 ODAC) now have a week off before traveling to Norfolk, VA next Tuesday for an ODAC showdown at 7 p.m. with the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College.
