LC Softball Ranked 11th in NFCA Division-III Pre-Season Poll

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College softball team, which is coming off an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title and a NCAA Tournament berth, was ranked 11th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) pre-season poll released Monday.
The Hornets received 115 points in the poll, sandwiching them between Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Tufts University.

The Hornets, who are coming off their best season under current head mentor Dawn Simmons, are scheduled to take on two ranked teams in No.6 Moravian and No.19 Bridgewater (VA). The Hornets return six of their top nine offensive players, led by junior outfielder Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) and senior infielder Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County).

Linfield garnered all eight first-place votes for the top ranking, while Wartburg, Plattsburgh State, Louisiana College and St. Thomas (MN) round out the top five.

The Hornets open the season Saturday, Feb. 16 when they travel to Raleigh, NC for a 1 p.m. non-conference tussle with the Angels of Meredith College.
