LC Baseball Falls at Limestone 7-6
GAFFNEY, SC – The Lynchburg College baseball team rallied in the ninth inning with three runs, but came up just short as the Hornets dropped their second-straight to start the 2008 season at Division-II Limestone College 7-6 in non-conference play Sunday.
Limestone jumped out to a two-run lead in the third inning, thanks to an RBI single and sacrifice fly. Lynchburg evened the score at two in the top of the fifth as Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) singled in a run and Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) added a run-scoring fielder’s choice.
After both teams exchanged single runs, the Saints (2-0) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a two-run double by Zach Watkins. The Hornets responded in the ninth with three tallies, but following a single by Jeff Lincoln (Stafford,VA/North Stafford) a runner was tagged out as he over slid the third base bag to end the game.
LaBrie finished 1-4 with two RBI, while Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg,VA/Heritage) both posted two runs and a hit apiece. Conner Thompson (Solomans, MD/Reservoirs) gave up three runs in five innings of work, striking out two and walking one while scattering five hits.
Left fielder A.J. Bshara led the Saints with three hits in four plate appearances, and Matt Still chipped in with a 2-3 day.
Lynchburg is off for a few weeks before they travel to North Carolina Wesleyan College on Friday, February 16 for another non-conference game at 3 p.m.
