GAFFNEY, SC – The Saints of Limestone College pushed across two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and LC could not respond in the ninth inning as the Lynchburg College baseball team dropped their season opener 2-1 in non-conference action.
The Hornets got a stellar start from D.W. Moore (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage), who tossed five innings of scoreless baseball, striking out five Saint hitters. Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) pitched well in relief for the Hornets, as did teammate left-hander Rich Glover (Bedford, VA/Liberty).
Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, VA/Staunton River) had the only RBI for the Hornets (0-1), who drove in Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) with a double. The Hornets dropped their eighth-straight season opener dating back to 2000, as they mustered only four hits on the afternoon.
Lynchburg will seek revenge tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. as they take on the Saints (1-0) again in another non-conference outing for the Hornets.
