Kristina Darby Scores 25 Points in 66-59 LC Women’s Win Over Bridgewater

LYNCHBURG, VA -- Sophomore guard Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) scored 25 points, including hitting 11-of-12 from the line as the Hornets came from behind in the second half to capture a 66-59 win over Bridgewater College Friday night from Turner Gym. With the win, LC snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Eagles, dating back to the 2002-03 season.

Both teams struggled early from the floor, with both teams combining to hit just 16 of their 60 first half shots. LC led at the half 26-23, but Bridgewater surged ahead by four midway through the half on a lay-up by Bianca Booker. Lynchburg responded with a 10-2 run over the next 3:48 to pull away, hitting nine of its 12 free-throws down the stretch to cling to the decisive edge.

Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) scored 16 points for Lynchburg, while also pulling in a season-high 19 rebounds. Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) added 15 points on six of 11 shooting, as the trio of Darby, Dahn and Lucas scored 56 of the Hornets’ 66 points.

Bridgewater’s (8-9/6-7 ODAC) leading scorer, Jordan Burkholder, scored 15 points but struggled with her shooting, hitting only four of 21 shots. Nikki Sydnor scored 10 points, with Booker coming off the bench to score 12 points for the visitors. LC outshot the Eagles 40%-28% from the floor, but were out-rebounded 51-44. The Hornets took a season-high 38 free-throws, hitting 25, while BC hit 14 of its 21 charity stripe attempts. Also, with the win Lynchburg head mentor Stephanie Tobey earned her 50th career coaching victory.

Lynchburg (11-6/8-4 ODAC) looks ahead to tomorrow afternoon when the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University come to Turner Gym for a pivotal conference game. Tip-off with EMU is set for 5 p.m.
