Lindsey Berman, outreach director for Rock the Vote, will be the keynote speaker at the Anderson Leadership Conference at Lynchburg College at noon on February 9.

This year's conference, "Leading for Change," will help students learn how to become advocates for change on campus and in their communities. The conference includes an informational fair, featuring representatives from national, local, and on-campus advocacy organizations involved with social, political, and environmental projects.

Rock the Vote's mission is to build the political clout and engagement of young people to achieve progressive change. Rock the Vote uses music, popular culture, and new technologies to encourage young people to register and vote in every election. It also gives young people the tools to identify, learn about, and take action on the issues that affect their lives.

Berman does marketing and outreach for Rock the Vote. Prior to her current role, she held the position of deputy political director, working directly with Rock the Vote's president and political director to develop and execute the 2004 election strategy as well as post-election agenda. She was also previously the National Bus Tour manager for RTV's multimillion dollar bus tour, which made more than 80 stops in more than 25 states.

Prior to her tenure at RTV, Berman worked on a number of political campaigns at the state and federal level as well as on the 2000 presidential convention in Los Angeles, where she served as Internet news media manager and was the youngest person to hold a management position. She graduated with honors from Brown University in Providence, R.I., and is originally from Los Angeles.

The Anderson Leadership Conference is made possible by an endowment established in 1990 by Crantford V. "Andy" Anderson Jr. and his wife Jeri in memory of their son Chip, a 1985 graduate of Lynchburg College. The Crantford V. "Chip" Anderson III Endowment, administered by the Office of Student Activities, funds the conference every year and enables all LC students to attend the event free of charge.

The Anderson Leadership Conference is also an opportunity to participate in workshops that will strengthen your leadership aptitude. The registration deadline is Monday, February 4.

The conference festivities continue through 7:15 p.m. with dinner and afternoon refreshments provided. A comedy show featuring the New York City improv comedy troupe, Eight is Never Enough, will be at 7:30 p.m. in Sydnor Performance Hall.
