LC Track Competes at Liberty
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College indoor track and field team traveled across town Saturday to compete at Liberty University.
The men’s mile relay team of Rashard Adams (Baltimore, MD), Will Tolbert (Missouri City, TX/Hightower), Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) and Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) won the event in 3:22.71, while Word finished second in the 400-meters in 50.58. Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) qualified for national competition in the pole vault, clearing 15’11” - and Ryan Van Alstine (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) finished the mile in 4:27.85. JJ Johnson (Lynchburg, VA/Amherst County) completed the 60-meter hurdles in 8.87, Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) ran the 3,000 in 8:53 and Travis Wray (Newburg, MD/La Plata) took second in the 800 in 1:59.01.
Freshman Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/APW) paced the women’s team with a sixth-place finish in the 1,000 (3:10.47) and a ninth-place showing in the mile (5:25.40). Danielle Garofalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) ran the 60-meter hurdles in 10.22 while sister Alicia Garofalo (Boxford, MA/Masconomet) finished in 10.97. Ashley Allen (Richmond, VA/Heritage) was fourth in the weight throw (12.28 m), while Deana Crews (Meadows of Dan, VA/Patrick Co.) was sixth 10.80 m). Krystle Landes (Staunton, VA/Wilson) ran the 400 meters in 63.10.
The Hornets will compete at the University of North Carolina and the Virginia Military Institute next Saturday.
