Lauren Askey First Double All-American in LC Women’s Soccer History
LYNCHBURG,
Askey was named to the first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District III squad – making her eligible for the All-American vote. Askey becomes just the seventh student-athlete in school history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. She was then recently named to the first-team All-American list after she anchored a defense that allowed only seven goals all season. She also scored four times, and helped on three other Hornet tallies in 2007.
Askey has a 3.96 cumulative GPA with a major in athletic training, and was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Askey is a four-time first-team All-ODAC selection as a defender, and has been honored three-times on the all-state and all-region teams.
The 2007 Hornet women’s soccer team won the ODAC Title, with Askey scoring the game-winning goal in the tournament championship game. LC advanced into the Division III NCAA Championship Tournament and won three games to make it into the Elite Eight for the second time in program history. The Hornets finished the season 19-4-3.
