MGMT 377/MBA 677 – Study Abroad to Austria

June 7/8, 2008, Sunday
You should schedule a flight to Zurich, Switzerland where you will then take a train to Bregenz, Austria. From the train station, you can easily walk to your lodging, Jugend and Familiengaestehaus Bregenz, where you will be met by Dr. Selden. Later, we will take a walking tour of Bregenz, where we will visit the world’s largest floating stage.

Bregenz is the capital of Vorarlberg and is located on the eastern shores of Lake Constance, the third-largest freshwater lake in Central Europe, between Switzerland in the east and Germany in the northwest.   The city is situated on a plateau falling in a series of terraces to the lake at the foot of Pfänder Mountain. It is a junction of the arterial roads from the Rhine valley to the German Alpine foothills. This evening enjoy a welcome dinner at Restaurant Gösser Bregenz, a restaurant specializing in local cuisine.

June 9, 2008, Monday
After breakfast, you will take the train to Dornbirn.  Attend morning lectures by Dr. Wolfgang Kremser.  You will learn about an array of business topics related to Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. As the largest and busiest city in Vorarlberg, Dornbirn is an important commercial center and shopping Mecca.

In the afternoon, we will visit the multi-national corporation, Red Bull/Rauch. Although the drink originated in Thailand, it was transformed into a global product by Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian entrepreneur in the late 1980s. Today, the Austrian formula of red bull has taken more almost half of the U.S. market for energy drinks.

5:30 – 8 p.m. - Dinner at the "Schattenburg” Castle Feldkirch – after a short stroll through the medieval city centre of Feldkirch

June 10, 2008, Tuesday
After breakfast, you will take the train to Dornbirn where you will walk to the campus for a day class with students from Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences.  You will engage in a series of problem-based exercises and cases related to international human resource management.

5:30 – 8 p.m. - Dinner at an Italian restaurant in Dornbirn  Ristorante “La Taverna Tre”

June 11, 2008, Wednesday
After breakfast, you will take the train to Dornbirn where you will walk to the campus for morning lectures by Dr. Wolfgang Kremser. In the afternoon, we will visit Hilti headquarters in Schaan, Liechtenstein. Hilti is a private company that develops, manufactures, and markets products related to construction and building maintenance. Products include drilling and demolition, direct fastening, diamond and anchoring systems, fire stops and foam systems, installation, positioning and screw fastening systems as well as cutting and sanding systems. The group primarily operates in Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia Pacific, and Africa.

5 – 8 p.m. - Dinner at the Winery of the Prince of Liechtenstein with wine tasting

June 12, 2008, Thursday
After breakfast, you will take the train to Dornbirn where you will walk to the campus for a second class with students from Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences.  You will engage in a series of problem-based exercises and cases related to international human resource management.  This evening, you will enjoy dining at the “Karren” Restaurant.

5:30 – 8 p.m. - Dinner at the Restaurant "Karren”

June 13, 2008, Friday
After breakfast you will be picked up by bus in Bregenz for a sightseeing tour.
9 a.m. – 3 p.m. - We visit the biggest modern hydraulic power plant for peak energy in Europe plus sightseeing of one of the highest basins (8.000 feet) for power supply. Wear hiking shoes.
3 – 5 p.m. - A short stroll through the medieval city centre of Feldkirch
5 – 8 p.m. - Dinner at the "Schattenburg” Castle Feldkirch

June 14, 2008, Saturday
Day off - to explore Bregenz, the lake and the surrounding cities – Lindau (by boat)
5 – 8 p.m. - Dinner at the Restaurant "Gebhardsberg”

June 15, 2008, Sunday
Return to U.S. via Zurich.  Take the train/coach to Zurich and fly home.
