Bridgewater Rallies To Beat Lynchburg Men 85-82

        LYNCHBURG, VA – The Bridgewater College mens basketball team cameback from a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat Lynchburg College 85-82 Sunday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

        LC led 34-33 at the half and pushed the lead to as many as 10 points in the second half, but the Eagles would gradually chip away at the lead but would not secure the advantage for good until there was 37 seconds left in the game. Sophomore forward Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, VA/Fork Union) had game highs of 25 points on 8-11 shooting and eight rebounds to lead the Hornets before fouling out with 3:55 remaining and the Hornets up one.  Senior forward Evan Fancourt (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley) had 19 points – including 16 in the second stanza – on 7-11 from the field while senior guard Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) had 11 points – with seven from the charity stripe – along with six assists and three steals.

        Five Eagles scored in double digits, led by Michael Oblitey’s 22 and Josh Fox’s 19. Andrew Cathlin chipped in with 11 while Dominic Trawick and D.J. Billups each tallied 10 points. Lynchburg was forced into 15 turnovers, nine in the second half, while Bridgewater (8-2/3-1 ODAC) committed just nine. LC also out-rebounded Bridgewater 29-24 with both teams grabbing 14 on the offensive end. LC outshot the Eagles 58% to 51% and from three range with LC connecting on 53% of its attempts while Bridgewater converted 42% of theirs.

        The Hornets (2-8/0-4 ODAC) will return to Lynchburg, VA, on Wednesday for an ODAC game against the Emory & Henry College Wasps with tip-off set for 7 p.m.
