Kwiatkowski Earns Rookie Award – Olsen co-Coach of the Year

FERRUM, VA – The Lynchburg College women’s soccer team claimed two of the top spots Wednesday as the 2007 College Division All-State Team was released, named by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.

Washington and Lee University junior forward Anne Van Devender was named Player of the Year, LC freshman forward Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) earned Rookie of the Year honors, while Lynchburg’s Dr. Todd Olsen and Roanoke College’s Phil Benne have been named co-Coaches of the Year.

Kwiatkowski notched 22 goals and 10 assists for 54 points in her first year with Lynchburg.  She was an All-Conference first team selection for the Hornets as well as the 2007 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Rookie of the Year.

Hornet senior defender Lauren Askey (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) joined Kwiatkowski on the all-state first-team squad. Askey was named the ODAC Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006 and 2007. She is a four-time first-team All-ODAC selection, and has been honored four-times on the all-state team.

Senior forward Sara Butsavage (Virginia Beach, VA/First Colonial) and sophomore defender Katelyn LeRiche (Guilford, CT/Guilford) earned spots on the second team. Butsavage netted six goals and eight assists for LC in 2007, while LeRiche started all 26 games on the backline.
