Christopher Newport Sweeps All-State College Division Field Hockey Awards
Jacque Mayer Named Player of the Year; Carrie Moura Repeats as Top Coach

LYNCHBURG, VA – Christopher Newport University swept all three major awards Wednesday with the release of the 2007 Virginia State Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division Field Hockey Team.

Senior defender Jacque Mayer earned State Player of the Year honors after becoming the first CNU field hockey player to capture First-Team National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American accolades after anchoring a defense that allowed just 15 goals in 19 games. She was also a first-team womensfieldhockey.com All-American and first-team all-region selection this fall.

Carrie Moura, also the state’s coach of the year in 2006, led the Lady Captains to a 16-3 record and a top five national ranking for most of the season. CNU advanced into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second-straight season. Goalie Elexa Nosonchuk earned the VaSID Rookie of the Year to complete the all-state hat trick for Christopher Newport. She took over the starting net-minder role early in the season and went 12-2 with a 0.47 goals-against average.

Lynchburg College and Washington & Lee University joined CNU with three student-athletes on the first-team squad. Eastern Mennonite University claimed the remaining two first-team slots, while seven schools were represented on the second team.
