Tentative Program Itinerary

May 22, 2008
Evening departure from Washington Dulles on overnight flight to Seville via Madrid.

May 23, 2008
Morning arrival in Seville. Coach transport to centrally located hotel. Lunch on own.  Orientation session in hotel, followed by a welcome dinner.

May 24, 2008
Breakfast in hotel. Continue orientation. Move to home stays.

May 25, 2008
Free day in Seville.

May 26 to June 9, 2008
Morning classes (M-F) in Language and Culture and Civilization with Lynchburg College professors, Dr. Kern Lunsford and Dr. Georg Schwarzmann at the CC-CS Center. Afternoon guided visits in English within Seville and to nearby cultural sites including the Cathedral, Alcázar, and the Roman vestige of Itálica.

Included is a weekend trip to Córdoba and Granada. In Córdoba, students will visit the Mezquita, the Great Mosque of the most important city of Western Islam.  After traveling by coach to Granada, students will take a walking tour to the Albaycin. The next day, they will visit the Alhambra and the Royal Chapel, which holds the tombs of Ferninand and Isabella. Lunches and dinners on own during this weekend excursion.

June 10, 2008
Morning departure for Madrid. Check into hotel. Walking tour of Old Madrid followed by free time. Dinner on own.

June 11, 2008
Breakfast in hotel. Morning departure for Toledo, Spain’s first capital, known as the “Imperial City.”  Students will visit the Gothic cathedral and the church of Santo Tomé, where one of the most important works of El Greco is located. Students will also visit the synagogue and the Jewish museum. Evening return to Madrid. Lunch and dinner are on own.

June 12, 2008
Breakfast in hotel. Morning bus tour of Madrid, followed by a visit to the Prado and the Reina Sofía Museums. Free time in afternoon. Lunch and dinner on own.

June 13, 2008
Breakfast in hotel. Morning departure for day trip to Valle de los Caídos, El Escorial and Segovia. Lunch and dinner on own.

June 14, 2008
Free day in Madrid. Evening farewell dinner.

June 15, 2008
Breakfast to hotel. Morning departure from Madrid to Dulles.

Inclusions:

  • Cultural visits in Seville
  • 5-night trip to Madrid, including visits to Toledo, Valle de los Caídos, el Escorial, and Segovia

Accommodations and Meals:

  • 4-star, centrally located hotel during Seville orientation (breakfast included)
  • 3-star, centrally located hotels during excursions to Madrid and Granada (breakfast included).
  • Double-occupancy home stays for students while in Seville, with three meals per day and laundry

Transportation:

  • International airfare
  • Local transportation via private coach for cultural visits

Program inclusions:

  • Orientation in Seville, including hotel stay and breakfast.
  • Health insurance for all program participants.
  • Optional daily activities and local study visits.
  • Support of resident director and on-site staff of CC-CS.

Application and $300 deposit per participant deadline: January 25, 2008.

Final payment due: March 21, 2008
