Christopher Newport Hosts Lynchburg College Indoor Track Teams

         NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport University hosted the Lynchburg College men’s and women’s indoor track teams Saturday, as the Hornets competed in the Holiday Open at the Freeman Center.

         Freshman Ashley Allen (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) won the weigh-throw competition with a heave of 13.22 meters, and also threw 11.55 meters in the shot put. Mary Mohay (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) cleared 10’6” in the pole vault and Krystle Landes (Staunton, VA/Wilson) ran a 27.23 in the 200-meter dash.

        J.J. Johnson (Lynchburg, VA/Amherst County) ran an 8.68 in the 60-meter hurdles for the men’s squad, and Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) finished the 200-meters in 23.30 and leaped 6.31 meters in the long jump. Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) crossed the finish line in 50.32 for fourth place in the 400-meters and the 4x400 meter relay team of Rashard Adams, Will Tolbert (Missouri City, TX/Hightower), Word and Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) took third place in 3.24.10.

         LC is off for the holidays and will compete next at the Virginia Tech Open Jan. 11-12.
