        LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior point guard Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) scored a game and season-high 24 points on 9-20 shooting Saturday to lead the Lynchburg College men’s basketball team to a 74-70 victory over cross-town rival Randolph College. The matchup marked the first-ever matchup between the two schools in men’s basketball.

           The score was tied on seven occasions and there were 11 lead changes in the second half. LC was up nine early in the second-half, but the WildCats battled back to take the lead with 11:24 left in the half, from then on out it was a seesaw battle. The game was tied at 61-61 with 5:19 to go, but Lynchburg would outscore Randolph 13-9 down the stretch, with sophomore forward Jeff Langrock (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) sealing the win at the free throw line, making two attempts with three seconds remaining.

        Safo contributed with four assists and three steals, included a steal on Randolph’s final possession, while Langrock tallied 13 points and nine rebounds with five offensive boards.  Sophomore guard Brad Puffenbarger (Blue Grass, VA/Highland) scored 12 points on 3-6 shooting from the three point line and made all three free throw attempts.  Sophomore forward Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, VA/Form Union) scored 17 points on 6-7 shooting from the field before fouling out in just 25 minutes.

          Randolph (3-4) was led by Pete Hamilton with 20 points on 6-13 shooting and 3-8 from three range while Brandon Harris notched 20 points on 8-13 shooting to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Tim Clarke scored 12 points while making all nine shots from the charity stripe, and Jimmy Greene posted 10 points and eight caroms.

          Lynchburg (1-5) will return to the court on Monday, December 17, at 7 p.m., hosting the Captains of Christopher Newport University.
