Ferrum Takes a 77-62 Win over Lynchburg

 FERRUM, VA – The Ferrum College men’s basketball team opened a large early lead and never looked back, notching a non-conference victory over Lynchburg College 77-62 on Tuesday night.

          Ferrum went into halftime with a 41-18 edge, holding the Hornets to only five first-half baskets while the Panthers shot 14-29 in the first half. Lynchburg came back strong in the second half, outscoring Ferrum 44-36, but could not get any closer than 13 points.

 The Panthers were led by Derek Mitchell who scored 19 points on 8-10 shooting and also added 12 rebounds. Kevin Lambert chipped in with 10 points while Jerrell Wade tallied eight points, four assists, and three rebounds. Mason Wooldridge posted a game-high of 26 points for Lynchburg and also corralled seven caroms.

         Ferrum (3-4) shot 46.3% from the field for the game while Lynchburg (0-5) shot 35.5%. The Panthers forced 18 turnovers while Lynchburg forced 12, and Ferrum out-rebounded the Hornets 40-34.

         Lynchburg will return to the court on Saturday to host Randolph College in the first-ever men’s basketball matchup between the two schools. Tipoff is set for 3 pm.
