Roanoke Women Defeat LC 85-69

         LYNCHBURG, VA – Erin Hanson and Torri Bridge each scored 17 points as the Roanoke College women’s basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 85-69 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up Tuesday night.

         The Maroons built a 46-34 halftime advantage on 51 percent shooting from the floor (18-35), and extended the lead to 61-42 with 14:30 left in the second frame. The Hornets rallied with a 17-4 run to put themselves down just six at 65-59 with seven minutes on the game clock.  RC scored the next six points and 12 of the next 13 to put the contest out of reach.

         Sophomore Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) scored a game-high 19 points for Lynchburg and added five assists and four rebounds. Sophomore Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) tallied 18 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and four assists and Kelly Sutherland (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and Dana Esposito (New port Richie, FL/Holy Names) each scored seven points.

         Bridge hit six of her nine field-goal attempts en route to posting a career-high point total. Hanson added six caroms, Jordan Gholson posted 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks and Caitlyn Long scored 14 for Roanoke (4-2/2-2 ODAC). The Maroons shot 51 percent for the game (28-55) while LC converted on just 31 percent from the floor (26-83).  

 The Hornets (3-2/0-1 ODAC) are off for two weeks, and will next compete Tuesday, December 18 at Christopher Newport University at 7 p.m.
