LC Women Drop 79-63 Decision to Division I Elon

ELON, NC – The Division I Elon University women’s basketball team defeated Lynchburg College Wednesday evening 79-63 in non-conference play.

The Phoenix led 37-30 at the break, but Lynchburg used a 12-4 run, behind back-to-back Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) three-pointers, to take a 42-41 advantage. Elon rallied to take a 55-46 edge - and led by double figures for most of the rest of the game.

Darby finished with a game-high 21 points on seven of 11 shooting from the floor, including five-for-eight from beyond the three-point arc, and added five assists and four rebounds. Forward Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) totaled 19 points and a team-high six boards, hitting eight of her 14 shots. Denise Hemerka (Blackwood, NJ/Highland) added seven points and five caroms for LC.

Tierra Bumbrey netted 20 points for Elon (1-5) and had five assists. Amber Wall had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Nicole Allison posted 11 points.

The Hornets (3-1) host Roanoke College Tuesday at 7 p.m. in LC’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener.
