Methodist Men Hang on for 67-63 Win at Lynchburg College

         LYNCHBURG, VA – Billy McDade scored a game-high 26 points and Methodist University finished strong to defeat the Lynchburg College men’s basketball team 67-63 in a non-conference game Tuesday evening.

        The Hornets led 35-33 at the break, and trailed by just one with 2:03 on the game clock after a three-pointer by Brad Puffenbarger (Blue Glass, VA/Highland). But the Monarchs hit five straight free throws down the stretch to put the game away.

         Hornet sophomore Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, VA/Fork Union) delivered 19 points and 11 rebounds – the only LC player in double figures. Jeff Langrock (Southbury, CT/Southbury) had nine points, Jason Early (Radnor, PA/Radnor) tallied eight with four assists and three steals, and Eric Burnett (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) hit all three of his field-goal attempts en route to seven points.

         McDade added six boards and three three-pointers for Methodist (2-1). Antwin Shuford posted 14 points and seven caroms, and LeuMichael Smith had 11 points. The Hornets out-rebounded their guests 37-28, and shot 94 percent (15-16) from the charity stripe.

         Lynchburg (0-2) will host Averett University next Wednesday (the 28th) at 7 p.m.
