Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Fueled by Brittany Dahn’s (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) 29 points, the Lynchburg College women’s basketball team came back from a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat the Knights of Southern Virginia 63-62 on Tuesday night.

The Hornets were down 59-49 with 4:52 left to go in the second-half, but defensive pressure and timely baskets allowed Lynchburg to go on a 14-3 run for the rest of the half.  A layup and a free throw, a Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) layup, and a Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) basket cut the lead to just three points with 2:39 left in the game.  With the lead at just one and 15 seconds on the game clock, LC missed two free throws, but Dahn grabbed the offensive rebound and scored a layup with nine seconds left on the clock for the game-winner.

Dahn scored her career-high point total on 13-20 shooting from the field and added five caroms in 35 minutes of action. Lucas finished with a double-double, tallying 13 points, 10 rebounds with nine offensive boards, six assists, and two steals along with 10 trips to the charity stripe. Darby saw just 18 minutes on the floor due to foul trouble, but managed to score 12 points, grab seven rebounds, dish out four assists, and tally three steals.

Southern Virginia (2-3) shot 48.9% from the field and 42.9% from three-point range while Lynchburg shot 34.7% and 23.5% respectively. Lynchburg out rebounded the Knights 40-37, including a decisive 20-7 edge on the offensive glass. Lynchburg’s defense forced Southern Virginia into 26 turnovers while the Hornets (3-0) turned it over 15 times.

Lynchburg will return to the court on Wednesday, November 28, at Division I Elon University in Elon, NC. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
