The College of New Jersey Defeats LC 1-0 in NCAA Elite Eight
Lions Advance to Final Four

Box score

LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior midfielder Kristen Cubicciotti scored with 24:34 remaining in the contest to give the College of New Jersey women’s soccer team a 1-0 win over Lynchburg College in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Elite Eight. The Lions will advance next weekend to the NCAA Final Four, held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

TCNJ out-shot Lynchburg 13-1 in the first half, but Hornet freshman keeper Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made five first-half saves to keep the contest scoreless at intermission. At the 65:26 mark of the second half, Cubicciotti lifted a ball over the defense from about 15 yards out and into the net for the game’s only goal.

The Lions defense and a late Hornet red-card (forcing LC to play a player down in the final 11 minutes) thwarted LC’s comeback attempt.

Bader stopped 10 shots to keep her team within striking distance. TCNJ out-shot Lynchburg 24-6 and had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Lynchburg ends the season with a 19-4-3 record and its second trip to the NCAA’s Elite Eight. TCNJ (21-0-1), ranked third in the most recent NSCAA poll, will face second-ranked Messiah College (PA) Friday for the right to play for the Division III title on Monday.
