Lynchburg Women’s Basketball Opens with 75-54 Win Over So. Virginia
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Lynchburg college women’s basketball team forced 37 turnovers to open the 2007-08 season Friday night with a 75-54 win over Southern Virginia University in the first game of the Apprentice School Great Ships Invitational.
The Hornets led just 36-32 at the break and the game was tied 43-43 at the 14:34 mark of the second half. LC blew open the game by scoring 27 straight points over the next six and a half minutes to take a commanding 70-43 lead.
Sophomore guard Dana Esposito (New Port Richie, FL/Holy Names) paced the Hornets with 15 points, hitting three of four three-pointers and grabbing six steals. Sophomore forward Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) posted a double double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while freshman post player Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) contributed 11 points and five boards. Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) scored nine points and Amy Terry (Dublin, VA/Pulaski Co.) added eight points.
Tricia Dixon scored 11 points and snared six boards for the Knights (1-2), and Jenne Comp had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Lynchburg will play in the Invitational’s title game Saturday at 3 p.m. against the winner of tonight’s Apprentice/Morris State game.
