Tentative Itinerary for St. Lucia Program

The exact itinerary for the two to three week program in May 2008 will be determined after initial site visits and program details are completed. In general, students will participate in their corresponding projects during the weekdays with weekends organized for group travel throughout St. Lucia. Daily schedules will be set by faculty with the support of Peacework program staff.

Sample Itinerary

Lynchburg College – Peacework Program in St. Lucia

21 May 2008 to 06 June 2008

Wed., 21 May, 3 p.m. - Arrival
Transfer to hotel in Rodney Bay
6 p.m. - Dinner catered by local chef at Four Springs Villa;
Peacework Orientation to Rodney Bay area and St. Lucia Program Logistics

Thurs., 22 May, 10 a.m. – Orientation to St. Lucia schools, health care, government by the Ministry of St. Lucia; presentation by guest speakers from the local Folk Research Center – history of the Caribbean, cultural island activities, Rastafarian culture, etc; light lunch with Ministry
1 p.m. – free time at Rodney Bay Beach
Dinner in Rodney Bay

Fri., 23 May, 8 a.m. - Orientation to St. Lucia - Tour of the upper west coast including Castries, morning visit to Castries Market, Marigot Bay, Anse La Ray
Lunch in Anse La Ray
Evening out in Gros Islet

Sat., 24 May, 9 a.m. - Rainforest hike across St. Lucia Nature Reserve
Bag lunch during hike
Evening dinner in Rodney Bay

Sun. 25 May, 9 a.m. - Free day in Historic Pigeon Island Park
Catered lunch at Pigeon Island
Dinner in Rodney Bay

Mon./Tues., 26-27 May, 8 a.m. – Ministry pick up at Four Springs Villas
Nursing and Education:  Two groups:  Developmental screenings site 1 and 2 in Castries
Bag lunches taken on site
International Relations:  Upton Gardens Girls School program
Lunch cooked with girls at school
Evening team meetings to discuss daily activities and report writing
Dinners in Rodney Bay
8 p.m. - Monday evening cultural program with Boots and Fish

Wed/Thurs, 28-29 May, 8 a.m. – Ministry pick up at Four Springs Villas
Nursing and Education:  Two groups:  Developmental screenings site 1 and 2 in Castries
Bag lunches taken on site
International Relations:  Upton Gardens Girls School program
Lunch cooked with girls at school
Evening team meetings to discuss daily activities and report writing

7 p.m. - Thursday evening program with musical band from Donnattar School
Fri., 30 May, 8 a.m. – Ministry pick up at Four Springs Villa
Groups combine to complete painting at Donnattar School (25 students, 3 faculty)
Small group to Lady Gordon School for mural painting (5 students, 1 faculty)
Lunches taken with children at school
Evening trip to Anse La Ray for “Fish Friday” at the fish market
Dinner at the fish market

Sat., 31 May, 9 a.m. – meet at Marina for Cruise to Soufriere Bay
Drive-in volcano, sulfur mud baths, snorkeling, swimming
Lunch on the cruise
Dinner in Rodney Bay

Sun., 01 June – Free day 
Lunch at the Triangle in Rodney Bay

Mon./Tues. 02-03 June, 8 a.m. – Ministry pick up at Four Springs
